(KNSI) – A Sartell sophomore whose undiagnosed brain aneurysm ruptured during lacrosse practice in May surprised and inspired his teammates at their end-of-year banquet.
According to a CaringBridge update from his mother, Blake was granted a day pass to attend on Monday night. Shantel Sundby said, “In true Blake fashion, he did not want any attention on his presence. However, there were many tears during the night. The theme for this year was established at the beginning of the season. It was ‘believe.” How appropriate that he was given the Believe Award tonight. If anyone believes they can do something, it’s him. He believed and achieved. I will forever be grateful for our lacrosse community and coaches for loving on our family and supporting us in so many ways.”
She said seeing all the kids and parents on the team that we have missed so much this season was nice.
Shantel wrote that Blake has been going through rehab, which includes physical, recreational, occupational and music therapy, speech and psychology. Right now, she says doctors are working on his balance and doing a lot of cognitive work on memorization and writing.
Shantel says they expect him to be discharged to go home by the end of the week.
