(KNSI) – For the sixth time, the professional disc golf world will descend on Clearwater this weekend for a high-profile tournament.

The Preserve Championship runs from Friday to Sunday, and acts like an all-star break for the players. The Preserve owner, Charles Hutchinson, discusses what makes this event different from a standard Disc Golf Pro Tour stop. “Half of the competing players actually camp on the property, so they want to get here so they can unpack and relax. It’s kind of a mid-season break for the touring players. So, they go spend some time on the [Mississippi] River, or they fish in the ponds, or they go kayaking or canoeing.”

The Preserve is located just outside of a residential neighborhood. Hutchinson says it has plenty of parking and can handle large crowds, something that most courses on the tour cannot.

Hutchinson is looking to maximize potential attendance. He uses the World’s Largest Rubber Duck as the centerpiece for a family zone. “[It will] make a family-friendly reason for the kids to come in here. There’s actually going to be a short course in the woods, around the duck, that’s playable during the competition.”

Hutchinson also notes there is a vendor village for shopping and a beer market. He wants to cater to everyone, regardless of age, on top of the action on the course.

Kids get in free. Adult passes are $10 per day. More information on buying tickets is here. Last year’s winner got $10,000. Hutchinson expects that to be higher in 2025.
