(KNSI) – If you’ve ever been pedaling through St. Cloud, dodging traffic, or maybe you’re a parent who would love to bike with your kids to the park but want to avoid roads, the Minnesota Department of Transportation wants to hear from you.
On June 19th, MnDOT officials will set up shop at the Lake George Municipal Complex from noon to 7 p.m., coinciding with St. Cloud’s Juneteenth celebration. They’re on a mission to understand what’s working and what isn’t for people who rely on bikes, e-bikes, electric scooters, skateboards, and other personal transportation methods to get around. Those who can’t make it can fill out the survey online.
State planners want to dig deep to find barriers people face when choosing two wheels over four. What makes someone think twice about biking to work? Is it the lack of bike lanes, concerns about safety, or something else entirely? Are there economic factors that prevent people from accessing these transportation options?
The answers to those questions will help shape Minnesota’s updated Statewide Bicycle+ System Plan, a roadmap that hasn’t been refreshed since 2016.
