(KNSI) — Another defendant in the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme has been charged in a federal indictment with three counts of wire fraud and two counts of money laundering, bringing the total number of people charged in the case to 72.
According to court documents, 57-year-old Dorothy Jean Moore of Apple Valley claimed to launch two federal child nutrition program sites in late 2020 under the sponsorship of Feeding Our Future. The forms Moore completed and signed showed she served 1,500 meals to children daily at each site, which she said operated out of community churches. Through Feeding Our Future, Moore claimed and received reimbursements for meals she never served. A press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office did not give an exact amount.
At the same time, Moore claimed that she operated a catering company called Jean’s Soul Food and was getting federal reimbursement funds, but according to bank records, she spent little of that money on food. Instead, she bought cars and used that money for a lavish lifestyle.
“Stealing from a program designed to feed vulnerable children is not only criminal – it’s unconscionable,” said Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr. of the FBI Minneapolis. “Today’s indictment underscores our commitment to rooting out fraud that targets taxpayer-funded programs and ensuring those who exploit them are held fully accountable. The FBI, alongside our partners, will not relent in our pursuit of those who seek to profit from deception.”
The ringleader, Aimee Bock, was convicted in March on four counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, one count of bribery, and one count of conspiracy to commit federal programs bribery. Her co-defendant, Salim Said, was convicted on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, four counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit federal programs bribery, eight counts of bribery, one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering and five counts of money laundering.
