(KNSI) — So kids don’t go hungry this summer, there’s an app for that.
Created by the 501(c)(3) Hunger Impact Partners, and with help from the Minnesota Department of Education, the Free Meals for Kids app lists spots where kids 18 and under can access nutritious meals for the months of June through August. There’s also a map to provide an image of where the sites are located. Users can touch the pin and learn more about the site. It also offers sample menus for meals served and can send alerts for site updates and community resources.
The app isn’t just for use during the summer. While school is in session, users can get information on programs that offer meals for children of low-income families. The meals are available at childcare centers and after-school programs, plus weekend and holiday backpack programs, which are available at some school sites, in addition to food offered by hunger-relief organizations.
Year round, it lists locations of Fare for All, which sells fresh produce and frozen meat at up to 40% off retail prices. Learn more here.
