(KNSI) – The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office is doing just two youth safety camps this summer, and one of those is already full.
The class at Warner Lake County Park in Clearwater on June 17th has no room left, but space is still available for an event the day before at Albany North Park. The camp is scheduled to run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is meant for kids from eight to 12 years old. Lunch and water are provided for everyone in attendance.
The camps cover a range of safety topics. Sheriff Steve Soyka told KNSI News last year they typically have Minnesota Department of Natural Resources members come out to discuss wearing a life jacket on the lake. An area fire department talks about how to properly use an extinguisher. The sheriff’s office likes to show off drones or a K9 demonstration.
In between, there is plenty of fun on the docket. Kids can spray water from a fire hose, try to best high school and college students in the local explorers post at kickball, and more.
Officials accept roughly 30 kids per camp. Now in its sixth year, the event is free, but pre-registration is required. A link is here.
