(KNSI) – After a nearly five-month search, President Donald Trump has appointed a new United States Attorney for Minnesota.
The administration announced the selection of Joseph H. Thompson on Monday. Thompson has been a federal prosecutor for the past sixteen years. He started in Illinois and then moved to the Minnesota office in 2014.
Thompson specializes in fraud and public corruption, which signals the potential for further federal investigations into the Feeding our Future scandal and other black eyes that have made headlines in recent years. He was part of the Special Counsel team that looked into the mishandling of classified documents by President Joe Biden at the Penn-Biden Center in Washington, D.C.
A press release notes Thompson has extensive experience at the appeals court level, and he teaches law at the University of Minnesota. Thompson was born in Minnesota and is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College and Stanford Law.
