(KNSI) — Minneapolis police are investigating after a fatal mass shooting at Boom Island Park Sunday night that left a woman dead and five others hurt.
Police Chief Brian O’Hara said officers found two men and one woman who had been shot inside the park. They also found another man who was shot sitting in a car near the park entrance. The woman was rushed to the hospital but died from her injuries. Another man suffered life threatening gunshot wounds, and the other is expected to survive. Two other people were also shot and showed up at the hospital later. Another woman was also injured in the chaos surrounding the shooting.
Police think more than one person was shooting but have released few details, other than to say there may have been a large event going on beforehand.
O’Hara told reporters the scene is “more akin to a war zone that the amount of shell casings that the officers are recovering here than something that you would find in a park. It’s sickening.”
More officers were called to near the ambulance bay outside Hennepin County Medical Center due to a large crowd that had assembled there.
No one has been arrested.
