(KNSI) – Block by Block Ambassadors will begin patrolling downtown St. Cloud on Tuesday.

The ambassadors are trained to act as representatives for the area to help visitors find their way with a smile and a friendly welcome. The ambassadors are also expected to help clean up litter and serve as a liaison with police for possible safety issues.

The point person locally is Molly Voigt. She’ll be the operations manager in St. Cloud. Ambassadors will be easy to spot as each team member is dressed in bright apple green.

St. Cloud Downtown Alliance Executive Director Rachel Lolmasteymaugh says the effort is an attempt at “creating a welcoming atmosphere that encourages people to visit, explore, and invest in our downtown. Block by Block is a proven partner in cities across the country, including Duluth, Fargo, Minneapolis and St. Paul. Now we’re excited to bring that same energy and impact to St. Cloud.”

The ambassadors will walk the streets from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, with twelve-hour shifts starting at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

The initial contract with Block by Block is funded privately through donors and downtown businesses.
