(KNSI) — Before the gavel banged at midnight on Monday, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed legislation focusing on government oversight, spending adjustments, and election procedures.
Key elements of the legislation include enhanced oversight, as two new positions were funded in the Office of the Legislative Auditor, expanding its authority to report on agency implementation of recommendations. There were adjustments that reduced the originally proposed budget increases for the Attorney General and Secretary of State offices. Changes were also made that include requirements for balanced party representation among election judges in each precinct, strengthened ballot handling and chain-of-custody procedures, and moving the absentee ballot drop-off deadline to 5:00 p.m. on Election Day.
The Senate File 3045 Conference Committee Report passed with a vote of 116 to 18 and will now be sent to Governor Tim Walz for signature.
