(KNSI) – Several central Minnesota high schools are contenders to make the state tournament in softball.

The Minnesota State High School League released section brackets this weekend. Cathedral is the top seed in 6AA, ROCORI has the one seed in 8AAA, and Sartell and the St. Cloud Crush are both in the upper half of the 8AAAA seeding.

Section 6AA is the largest field of the group, featuring 16 teams. Action opens Monday on campus in a single-elimination format. The winners will then move to Rivers Edge Park in Waite Park in a double-elimination tournament for the next two weeks.

#1 Cathedral, 18-1 in the regular season, hosts #16 Milaca. Other local teams of note include #2 Kimball, #3 Melrose, and #7 Foley. The champion will be crowned on Thursday, May 29th.

Section 8AAA consists of seven teams. ROCORI (14-5) gets a first-round bye and will face the Hutchinson and Little Falls winner on Thursday. Games are played at the high seed until the championship on May 29th. The tournament is double elimination.

Section 8AAAA sees Sartell (14-4) check in as the two seed. The Sabres are guaranteed home-field advantage until at least the section championship. They’ll start their quest for states against Sauk Rapids-Rice, the seventh seed. On the other side of the bracket is #4 St. Cloud. They open at home Tuesday against #5 Moorhead. The winner would tackle #1 St. Michael-Albertville, barring a monumental upset.

The state tournament for all classes will be played at Caswell Park in Mankato.
