(KNSI) – A female Peregrine Falcon from St. Cloud got to welcome her newest babies into the world over Mother’s Day Weekend.
The 12-year-old bird and the man of the house, a 16-year-old from Gary, Indiana, are the stars of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources FalconCam, which is focused on their nest in downtown St. Paul. Momma laid four eggs between March 31st and April 9th, and all four hatched last weekend.
The DNR says the camera will again provide an inside view of the falcons raising their young. In these first few weeks, viewers will see the mother feed the chicks, with the dad providing support. The peregrine falcon primarily feasts on other birds, and the chicks will get to eat catches as large as ducks. As the babies grow, they will become more active.
According to the DNR, the recovery of peregrine falcons is a Minnesota success story, having once been on the brink of extinction. Find out more about their recovery story, clicking here.
She has nested in the same spot since 2016. This is the second year the couple has mated.
