(KNSI) – Fast-moving flames from discarded ash destroyed a camper and an ice fishing house in Collegeville.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says on Sunday morning, first responders were called about a grass fire that had spread to the fish house. Firefighters found the property owners trying to stop the blaze as it burned the camper, which was against a large shop.
Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to the shop, but the fish house and camper were lost.
The fire started from discarded ash from a wood boiler on the property. High winds and dry conditions are believed to have led to the rapid spread of the fire. No one was injured.
