(KNSI) – Activities are planned at roughly a dozen locations within Quarry Park and Nature Preserve for this Saturday’s Kids to Parks Day.

Some of the activities are hands-on, others more educational. There will also be a chance to meet personnel from three different county departments. At Quarry Number 2, there’s an opportunity to try out rock climbing. Touch a Truck is happening at Number 5, with fishing at 13, and create charcoal art at Number 10. Pinecone bird feeders are getting made at Number 12.

Guides will be giving presentations on aquatic insects at Quarry 11. A fun time bird watching at Quarries 3 and 4 could be the springboard for a lifelong hobby. An exhibit on native grass prairies will be set up at Quarry 9.

The Stearns County Parks Department, which manages Quarry Park and several other outdoor areas, will have a booth set up at Quarry Number 1. The Public Health Department is set to be stationed at Number 6, with the Sheriff’s Department manning a post at Quarry Number 7.

Access to Quarry Park will be free for the day. The event is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It ties into the national Kids to Parks Day effort put on each year by the National Park Trust.
