(KNSI) – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the St. Cloud Police Department in an investigation following an officer-involved shooting.
According to a press release, officers were called to a home on the 600 block of 8th Avenue North around 3:45 Friday afternoon for a domestic dispute. The woman told officers that a man she knew from a previous relationship was threatening her and came at her with his fists like he was going to hit her. Officers talked with both the man and the woman. During the initial investigation, the man went outside and sat in a parked car.
Officers say they told the man he was under arrest, and at first, he wouldn’t get out of the car. A short time later, he got out of the car with a knife and lunged at a police officer, striking them on the arm. At that point, investigators say the officer fired their handgun, hitting the suspect once in the arm. Another officer deployed a Taser, and the suspect was taken into custody.
Police provided first aid at the scene and took the man to CentraCare – St. Cloud Hospital for further treatment.
The officer suffered minor injuries in the assault and is expected to be okay.
The investigation is ongoing.
