(KNSI) — The Minnesota House passed the Environment and Natural Resources budget bill Monday on a 126-5 vote.
The legislation maintains many environmental programs from the previous session, when the legislature passed measures addressing PFAS chemicals, nitrates, aquatic invasive species, wildlife conservation, and tree planting initiatives.
The new budget includes a $10 million overall reduction compared to the previous period. These reductions affect the Board of Water and Soil Resources, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Despite these adjustments, the budget continues to fund programs focused on protecting air, land, and water resources.
During the legislative process, there were differences between Democrats and Republicans regarding environmental regulations. Several proposed amendments to loosen Minnesota’s strict ban on PFAS chemicals were not included in the final bill. The legislation also maintains previously established clean water protections.
