(KNSI) – Saint John’s Preparatory School in Collegeville just received the biggest donation in its 168-year history.
Ann Marie Stock, a graduate of the Class of 1978, and her husband, David Campagna (pictured above), gave the gift. The exact amount wasn’t disclosed. Ann Marie grew up in St. Joseph and was the first in her family to go to college. She says scholarships at Prep helped her get there. “Prep made me believe I could go to college,” she said. “It helped me become confident and successful in school and in life.”
She is now a senior academic leader at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and believes that education is one of the best gifts anyone can give.
According to the school, thanks to their support, the Prep Forward – Our Time is Now fundraising campaign has raised over $12.5 million, exceeding the $10 million goal. The money will go to help teachers, improve school buildings, and give financial aid to students who need help paying for school.
The head of SJP, Jon McGee, said this gift will help many future students, especially those who might not think they can afford to go to Prep. “It will change lives and make our community stronger,” he said.
Saint John’s Prep is known for its arts and sciences programs. It was started in 1857 by Saint John’s Abbey. Today, about 300 students attend from 15 different countries, several U.S. states, and many towns in Minnesota.
