(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Area Public School District’s brightest moments will be honored next month during its Shining Stars Community Celebration.
According to the officials, the day will highlight the biggest moments for District 742 during the 2024-2025 school year. The formal recognition of the Minnesota Association of School Administrators’ 2025 Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Laurie Putnam, is at the center of the event. She was given the distinction in October.
A press release from MASA says Dr. Putnam led efforts to improve inequities by emphasizing diversity in the workforce. They say under her leadership, the district has surpassed state and regional averages in staff diversity, with 8.5% of teachers and 21.6% of administrators identifying as people of color. The award showcases her focus on a more inclusive environment, enhancing student engagement, attendance, and academic performance.
Dr. Putnam was also selected for her fiscal responsibility. She secured over $7 million in grants to launch initiatives like Full-Service Community Schools and to enhance student safety through GPS mapping and anonymous safety reporting systems. Additionally, grant funding has supported programs for aspiring special education teachers and paraprofessionals seeking teaching credentials.
According to the district, the event will also serve as a heartfelt thank you to the community for passing the Apollo referendum. During a special election on April 8th, 62.15% of voters approved a $65 million proposal to renovate the school and build a new indoor multipurpose athletic facility.
The gathering will also feature student performances, professional artists, cultural music, a dance showcase, and an acknowledgment of the district’s valued community partners.
The public is invited to the free event at Apollo High School on May 17th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
