(KNSI) – Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth is slamming Attorney General Keith Ellison’s continued legal challenges to the Trump administration.

The Republican from Cold Spring called it “extremely disappointing” when questioned about the two lawsuits being brought by the AG. One is asking a court to rule that threatening Title IX funds unless a state bars transgender athletes from women’s sports regardless of how they identify violates federal law. The other refers to an executive order that only recognizes two genders.

Ellison issued a binding letter encouraging Minnesota school districts and organizations like the Minnesota State High School League to ignore the federal government’s threats over potential pulled funding. U. S. Attorney General Pam Bondi responded to the Ellison letter by opening up a Title IX investigation to notify the state that repercussions would be coming unless it changed course.

The federal government has sued Maine already for similar reasons. Demuth is backing the president. “It’s extremely disappointing that Attorney General Ellison would rather risk federal funding and file yet another taxpayer funded lawsuit against the Trump administration than simply do the right thing and keep boys out of girls sports. It’s a waste of taxpayer money to further a political agenda that makes girls less safe and makes sports less fair.”
