(KNSI) — The St. Cloud Rox return to the Rock Pile Friday night for their home opener, and a former Minnesota Twins pitcher with a very familiar last name will be their guest.
Pat Mahomes pitched for the hometown nine starting in 1992, making his MLB debut with the club on April 4th. You may recall the photo with Mahomes and a tiny tot on his hip, also wearing a Twins jersey. That tiny tot grew up to be the 6’2” superstar Super Bowl winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is the current signal caller for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Mahomes the elder played for us until 1996 when he was traded to the Boston Red Sox. He also played with the Rangers and Mets and pitched in the World Series “Subway Series” against crosstown rivals New York Yankees. He also pitched for the Cubs and Pirates before hanging it up in 2003.
The Rox will come into tonight’s matchup against the Badlands Big Sticks undefeated after sweeping the Minot Hot Tots and the Bismarck Larks in the first four games of the season. Mahomes will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and will be available for photos and autographs beforehand.
Gates open at 6:05. There will be a fireworks show after the game.
