(KNSI) — The St. Cloud City Council is set to approve a contract Monday night for a local company to oversee a $5.6 million redevelopment project for Whitney Regional Park.
The parks department is recommending Knife River Corporation for the construction of planned improvements, including renovating or building new parking lots, athletic fields, trails, handicap accessibility features, lighting, stormwater upgrades, eight new pickleball courts, a playground, landscaping, fencing, and converting the old airport runway into green space. Knife River was one of five companies seeking the job.
The project is part of the city’s park and recreation master plan approved in 2017. The work will be paid for by donations, grants, and the local option sales tax for regional parks and trails.
The bids are listed in the city council’s consent agenda, which means they are bundled with many routine items and approved in one motion unless council members pull them for discussion and a separate vote. The meeting takes place on Monday at 6:00 p.m. inside City Hall.
