(KNSI) – A large grass fire near Pierz has led authorities to warn about the potential danger to homes and commercial buildings.
Described as a “running swamp fire,” the blaze is about 70% contained, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. At 800 acres, it is closing in on buildings near the intersection of 123rd Street and Partridge Road in Hillman Township.
The fire is burning to the northwest, having started in a boggy wetland area between Partridge and 355th Avenue. At 3:20 a.m., an Everbridge alert was sent out.
The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office is on scene with the DNR and the Pierz Fire Department.
