(KNSI) – Two prominent Minnesota senators will be touring St. Cloud Monday.
Majority Leader Erin Murphy will cap things off with a tour of the nearly completed Great River Children’s Museum and a veteran’s town hall. First, though, she visited the Koltes Farm with Senator Aric Putnam. “Sen. Putnam has been an exceptional ag chair, and he is determined to write ag policy on a farm. He has visited farms all across the state of Minnesota…It helps us understand what farmers, ranchers, and people in rural communities are facing.”
Spending cuts in Washington, D.C., have gotten the attention of veterans locally. Some were protesting on the walking bridge over Highway 15 near Apollo High School and the VA campus the first weekend of April. They held signs demanding hands off the VA.
Murphy says vets are one of the groups most affected by the Department of Government Efficiency in the Trump Administration. “We’re going to be doing a listening session today with veterans in the area, another important place for us to listen carefully, especially as we’re seeing the federal changes and the uncertainty that is coming from our current federal government and its impact on veterans, their lives, and their benefits.”
Federal cuts will be the focus of another town hall later this week featuring Murphy and Putnam. Representative Dan Wolgamott, a St. Cloud-area lawmaker in the Minnesota House, is also scheduled for the meeting, which will take place Thursday evening.
