(KNSI) — An idea first planted in October 2023 is now in full bloom as a new greenhouse at Holdingford High School allows students to grow their agricultural knowledge alongside rows of flowers and vegetables.
The state-of-the-art facility was made possible thanks to the Holdingford Future Farmers of America Alumni, the school district, and local businesses. Students were involved in constructing the 24-foot by 48-foot greenhouse from beginning to end. To showcase the new addition, an open house will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
According to the FFA, the new greenhouse triples the space to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers. A cut of the vegetables and herbs grown over the summer will be used in the school’s farm-to-table program and served at lunches. The student-grown flowers will also add beauty by being used as landscaping on school grounds and sold at the annual spring plant sale.
