(KNSI) — For those who have expired or unneeded medications in their cabinet, the annual spring Drug Takeback Day is coming up on Saturday April 26th.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration hosts two days each year as a way to safely discard prescription medications – including controlled substances – and prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.
The St. Cloud VA Medical Center is participating in the event. From 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., veterans and the general public can place medications in a secure drop box inside Building 1. Officials recommend using the door nearest the two flagpoles to access the area.
For those who are unable to use the box that day, the DEA maintains a list of drop off sites. Find it by clicking here.
During both Takeback Days last year, nationwide, nearly 650 tons of medications were dropped off.
