(KNSI) – Waite Park has nearly finalized plans for relocating staff during the renovation and expansion of city hall.
Officials will provide an update at Monday’s council work session. The update calls for a temporary closure on May 1st and 2nd to help facilitate the move to the public works building. The police department would also be included.
In addition to being law enforcement headquarters, city hall is where they store the squad cars. One of the factors in pushing for an expansion was that they had run out of space for the fleet. When the police move over to the public works building, they won’t be able to keep all of the vehicles on-site. The relocation plan calls for sergeants to take home squad cars until the renovation is finished.
Officials say the move creates some problems, but it solves much more than it is responsible for. It is much easier to secure evidence and sensitive servers at a temporary office than an active construction site. Clearing city hall will allow the project to wrap as much as six weeks earlier, helping bring down construction costs.
