(KNSI) – A Sartell native is among the best players in Division I college baseball.

Kade Lewis is only a couple of years removed from terrorizing pitchers from schools like St. Michael-Albertville, ROCORI, and the St. Cloud Crush. After a season playing for Butler in the Big East, he transferred to Wake Forest in the powerful Atlantic Coast Conference.

The sophomore has been off to a torrid start for the Demon Deacons. His spectacular slugging stats have earned him recognition as a midseason All-American from D1Baseball.com. Lewis is one of eight ACC players to make the cut. Only two players from the Big Ten joined them. No Gophers were included.

In 32 games, Lewis is hitting .455 with an OPS of 1.378. Of his 51 knocks, 10 have been doubles, and another 10 left the yard. Lewis has walked 29 times, which is more than he has struck out. He has logged 45 RBIs and scored 32 runs.

Lewis helped lead the Sartell Sabres to multiple Class AAAA state tournament appearances. He’s now hoping to get Wake Forest to the College World Series. The team has a real shot at making the field, currently 23-10 overall and 9-6 in the conference. The Demon Deacons are 16-5 at home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
