District 742 Hosting Last Round of Apollo Tours

(KNSI) – District 742 is looking to make the most of its final opportunity to pitch voters on a two-part referendum that will be decided on Tuesday.

Officials will host a walking tour at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, which will serve as an information session at Apollo High School. They’ll have the chance to show the improvements needed at the 50-year-old facility in person. The upgrades would include secure entrances, plus beefed-up technical education classrooms like a diesel mechanic’s bay for commercial trucks, computer stations, and a health care lab.

The second question of the referendum is whether to construct a new multipurpose indoor athletic facility that would be available year-round to students and community teams. A walking track and full-size turf field could be used for a variety of sports, from football to soccer. When the weather is not cooperating, it would also provide a good practice space for softball and baseball.

The Apollo upgrades must be approved for the athletic facility vote to matter. The total price tag is estimated at $65 million and would apply to all District 742 homes. If everything is passed, the average property owner would pay $3.33 per month.

District 742 has brought potential Apollo upgrades to voters twice before. They were rejected in both 2015 and 2016.
