(KNSI) – A natural gas leak early Sunday at a retirement community in southeast St. Cloud had firefighters on scene just after 6:00.
A crew with Engine 3 discovered that the leak was coming from a meter located near the building in the 1400 block of Minnesota Boulevard. With a shelter-in-place order, firefighters were able to approach the meter and turned the gas off. Backup personnel ensured that nothing sparked, providing fire-suppression to keep anything from igniting.
After the threat was neutralized, a separate crew went inside the building and took measurements to ensure there was no threat to residents. After accounting for everyone’s safety, Xcel Energy crews were given the green light to make repairs to the meter.
St. Benedict’s staff returned to work after the situation was cleared.
