(KNSI) – A country duo that has been making headlines for 50 years will light up the marquee at the Paramount Center for the Arts in April.
From their start in Florida, Howard and David Bellamy first made their bones as backup singers for the likes of Percy Sledge and other black artists in the south. They set up roots in Atlanta, taking cues from the Allman Brothers to develop a rock/country sound.
Smash hits like “Let Your Love Flow” put the Bellamy Brothers on the map in the pop world. They moved to Los Angeles and wrote with Minnesota native Bob Dylan, James Taylor and Van Morrison. “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me) brought the Bellamys to country music.
They owned the 80s with nine chart-topping hits and 14 others that reached the Top 10. The Bellamy Brothers are credited with creating the country duo category, which led to success from Brooks and Dunn and Montgomery Gentry.
The Bellamies are still pumping out new music, so expect a mix of the classics with new standards that still contain their clever mix of lyrics and perfect harmonies on April 3rd at 7:30 p.m. during The Bellamy Brothers: The Love Still Flows.
The back half of April transforms the Paramount stage into London, England when GREAT Theatre puts on “Mary Poppins.” The play focuses on a nanny with the impossible task of reforming bratty children Jane and Michael Banks. A little discipline, a lot of enchantment, and entertainment that can only be described as supercalifragilisticexpialidocious mark this timeless tale that was once a Disney movie classic.
“Mary Poppins” runs from the 11th to 27th. Tickets are available for both shows here.
