(KNSI) – A former St. Joseph mayor could be the leader of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party.

Richard Carlbom is one of two men nominated for party chair at Saturday’s DFL State Central Committee meeting. He was mayor of St. Joe from 2005 to 2010. Carlbom is the current chief of staff for Governor Tim Walz. He’s running against campaign organizer Jack Lindsay from Mankato.

Both candidates hope to replace Ken Martin, who left the post to serve as the National Democratic Party chair.

The voters for the post are made up of members from local party units, the State Executive Committee, 50 at-large members, ten elected officials, and the chairs and vice-chairs from each district.

The election and meeting occur on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Edina High School.
