(KNSI) – The second Free Park Day is less than a month away.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources uses the promotion as a way to showcase state park and recreation areas in each of the four seasons. The next is Saturday, April 26th.
Visitors will get in free, no vehicle permit needed. Passes are still required for premium activities like overnight camping, special tours, or equipment rentals.
Free Park Day can be a chance to explore local facilities like Lake Maria State Park. The DNR says it prides itself in the fact that the average Minnesotan is only 30 miles from a state park. Many use the occasion to branch out to a different part of the state for unknown adventures.
Officials encourage residents to take advantage. They point out that being outside in nature has several tangible health and well-being benefits. It improves attention, lowers stress, and can be a fun way to exercise. The American Psychological Association says the Great Outdoors even reduce psychiatric disorders while improving a person’s ability to empathize and cooperate with others.
