(KNSI) – Gardeners and artists are uniting on Earth Day.
Buckthorn has long been the bane of park managers and green thumbs as an invasive species. Thanks in part to the St. Cloud Morning Optimist Club, a demonstration is set for April 22nd that shows how it can be repurposed after it is pulled from the ground. Buckthorn branches can be converted into charcoal that can then be put onto paper when creating sketches.
The event will begin with a quick presentation on the ecological effects of buckthorn. Local artist Sarah Drake will then transition into how the plant can be turned into art supplies. The final step is to create drawings using the buckthorn. It is being organized by Conservation Minnesota at Warner Lake County Park in Clearwater. The group will meet inside the Nature Center from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Registration for the event is required. A link is here.
