(KNSI) – Six central Minnesota farms have been recognized for raising crops and livestock for at least 100 years.
On Thursday, the Minnesota State Fair announced this year’s inductions in the Century Farm club.
The list includes the Czeck family farm near Holdingford, which has been around since 1883. Also being honored are the Braun Family Farm near Belgrade, established in 1887; the Carlson Family Farm near Foley, which has roots that date back to 1894; the Zierden Farm, which sprung up in 1896 near Melrose, the Stangl Family Farm began to flourish in 1906 near Pierz and the Tschida Family Farm, which started in 1925, also near Pierz.
They’re among 77 to be honored during the Great Minnesota Get-together in August, where they will be given a commemorative plaque and certificate. To be picked for recognition, farms have to be in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years, at least 50 acres in size, and used for agriculture production.
Stearns County has 391 recognized century farms, the most of any county in Minnesota. To learn more, click here.
