(KNSI) – The Cold Spring City Council approved a final plat for a new residential neighborhood at Wednesday’s meeting.

It would consist of 46 homes on a little over 11 acres near County Road 2. Park land dedication was a sticking point, holding up the issue at the Planning Commission level. City Administrator Kris Dockendorf explains what the public land will be used for.

“Hopefully, in a future phase, there will be a trail going through this property to connect the neighborhood north of it to the school property south of it. So, it would be a walking and biking trail.”

Initial construction is set to get underway this spring. Depending on the pace of lot sales, the developers hope to begin additional phases in 2027 and 2029.

The meeting also focused on upgrades at the wastewater treatment plant, which serves Cold Spring and nearby Rockville. The two cities are on the hook for $37.5 million in funding. Dockendorf states that they are hoping to lock down funding commitments before advancing further with the project.

“The city council authorized our engineers to start design, to just do a 30% design. So, that’s on hold until we can get this cost share agreement signed between us and Rockville.”

The hope is Rockville will pay for 24.6% of the costs, which is equal to the capacity it has reserved at the plant. Cold Spring has treated sewage from Rockville since 2003.
