(KNSI) – Nearly 95% of Minnesota is at least abnormally dry, but the St. Cloud area continues to be spared.
The worst drought in the state is located in the headwaters region, which is keeping the threat of flooding on the Mississippi River low. Severe drought also affects an area centered in Lac Qui Parle and Yellow Medicine Counties near the South Dakota border.
Moderate drought affects about 60% of Minnesota. It covers a c-shaped area that starts in Lake County, then winds over to the state’s western border and boomerangs back east as you get down towards the Iowa State Line.
Locally, it is a much more stable situation. The eastern half of Stearns County has normal soil moisture, as does all of Sherburne County and the majority of Benton County. The forecast calls for a soggy Saturday, both snow and rain, which should keep the ground saturated.
