(KNSI) — The Disabled American Veterans and VFW Post 428 in St. Cloud are joining together in adding a new DAV (Monument and an additional Veterans Monument tablet to the existing Veterans Monument outside the post.
That monument currently has 1,458 names listed. A new veteran’s tablet will be added simultaneously as the DAV monument tablets are installed with room for another 156 names.
The DAV Monument of three tablets will be hung against the brick wall and directly behind the current free-standing veterans’ monument. The main tablet will measure several inches taller than the current free-standing tablet and will hold approximately 228 names. The two side memorials will also stand taller than the current free standing memorial and will be spaced 6” apart from the main tablet. Each side tablet will hold 152 names with a total number of 532 names to be honored.
Any veteran, living or deceased, regardless of when they served, as long as they were honorably discharged, is eligible. The cost is $130 per person and is tax deductible. The post asks donors to provide a name and branch of service for the person, and it is open to those who are still on active duty. Veterans can put their own names on the monument if they choose.
Both monuments will be dedicated on Memorial Day, May 26th, at the VFW Post 428 in St Cloud. The ceremony will include patriotic music, an Honor Guard, a 21 gun salute, and bugler/taps. There will be plenty of parking with ROTC and Civil Air Patrol Cadets assisting those who may need assistance getting to the dedication area.
Information and submission forms for both are available at VFW Post 428 and Stearns County Veteran Services Office. The VFW says to act quickly for those whose names want to be added by Memorial Day.
