(KNSI) – An anchor between the pipes for St. Cloud State University has signed a professional contract.
Goaltender Isak Posch inked a two-year entry-level deal with the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday. He’ll try and make it with one of the National Hockey League’s top franchises. The Avs won the Stanley Cup in 2022 and have been a contender ever since. Colorado is currently in fourth place in the Western Conference.
As impressive as the Avalanche have been recently, goaltending has been a weak point, meaning Posch has a chance to make a meaningful contribution to the franchise in time. Colorado had to trade for Mackenzie Blackwood mid-season to try and shore up the position.
Posch is a native of Sweden but has played for years in the Midwest. Before coming to SCSU, he was on the roster for Sioux Falls in the USHL. Posch became the primary netminder as a freshman for the Huskies. He followed that up in the 2024-25 season by putting in one of the most outstanding stat lines in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
Posch boasted a save percentage of .923. His best single-game performance was against Colorado College. He wowed the crowd at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, logging 42 saves in a 4-2 win versus the Tigers.
