(KNSI) – A former St. Cloud City Council member running for governor cites what he describes as the failures of the current administration as the reason for his campaign.
Jeff Johnson spent eight years on the St. Cloud City Council before losing a close race for county commissioner in 2020. After watching from the sidelines for a few years, he told KNSI why he decided to jump back into the political arena. “I’ve been thinking about this for four years, since the last election cycle, and it’s just time. We don’t have a train wreck. We have multiple train wrecks going on in the state.”
Johnson says Minnesotans’ quality of life is declining. He points to a loss of police officers across the state, saying Walz wasn’t strong enough in standing up to the ‘Defund the Police’ movement. He also says a surge in violent crime, the Minneapolis-St. Paul riots, the loss of more than $500 million in taxpayer money to multiple scams, and the disappearance of the $17 billion state budget surplus from 2023 are all abject failures by Minnesota’s Democratic leadership.
Johnson stated Walz has been wasteful with Minnesotans’ wealth. “I’m flabbergasted that we have all this fraud going on, and Governor Walz’s solution is we just need to raise taxes. That’s just outrageous. So many of our hard-working citizens are taxed to death. They’re barely making ends meet. They’re worried about sending their kids to college and when our governor continues to tax us and spends money like a drunken sailor. That’s a problem.”
He also accuses Governor Walz of campaigning for president and holding town hall meetings in other states instead of focusing on the many crises back home.
