(KNSI) – After reviewing bids from seven firms and interviewing five, the City of St. Cloud approved a contract with OPN Architects as the design and engineering company for Fire Station 6 and its adjacent training facility.
The $1,725,000 deal is for architectural, engineering, geotechnical, and commissioning services from design through construction.
Fire Department Deputy Chief Peter Kedrowski spoke with KNSI News and said they found the right designers for all the parts. “They had different people that they brought in for each area and really covered it. A lot of the firms covered those areas. OPN, we felt, brought in the best experts in those areas and really gave us a well-rounded team to work with.”
Kedrowski says it will take time for the plans to come alive. “It’s going be pretty quiet for a while. A lot of back and forth work [will be done] for the next six months to a year to dial that stuff in. We are going to do some additional boring on site, just to get a better look and see if there’s any issues before the footprint goes in. So that’s the first thing the public will probably see, is some trucks out there doing some additional drilling.”
In November, St. Cloud residents approved spending $43.5 million to build a fire station and training center near Tech High School on the southwest side of town. Those bonds will cover the expense.
The facility is set for a 2027 opening.
