(KNSI) – The Sauk Rapids City Council is expected to authorize engineering firm SEH to finalize design plans for Phase II of the Mayhew Creek Park improvements.

It includes a pair of multipurpose athletic fields on the east end of the complex, with the intention of a couple more down the line. Four Little League baseball diamonds are already in the works. In the middle will be the new early childhood learning center that the Sauk Rapids-Rice School District is building.

Voters approved the fields in a two-part referendum earlier this year. Phase II is expected to have a price tag north of $1.5 million, which would be split 50-50 between ISD 47 and the city. The hope is to begin construction later this year.

The item is part of the consent agenda. The council will also look to okay the solicitation of bids for 2025 road overlay projects. The total cost is estimated at about $2.5 million. Improvements are planned in four neighborhoods scattered throughout Sauk Rapids.
