(KNSI) – Albany successfully completed a perfect season Saturday, winning the Class AA state championship at Williams Arena.

The Huskies edged #2 Waseca, 70-63, in a battle of unbeatens for the title that lived up to the billing. Albany got off to a hot start, leading 15-4 at one point in the first half. Waseca hung around, forcing 23 turnovers. Eventually, Deron and Damarius Russell heated up. They combined for 54 Blue Jay points.

The Huskies had enough answers, though, to pull through. They shot 60% from the field, including 7-15, or 46.7% from beyond the arc. Guard Zeke Austin and center Sam Hondl both easily eclipsed 20 points apiece, with Elliott Burnett chipping in nine and another six coming from Ethan Meyer.

Albany also excelled at free throws, converting 15 of 18 at the charity stripe. Waseca only had five attempts in total.

The win cements the legacy of the senior class, which has secured two state championships in three years, and they go out undefeated in 2024-25 at 32-0. It’s the best run for a local high school basketball team in fifty years.
