(KNSI) – Stearns County officials are giving updates on the justice center and looking for input.
The county is holding three informational sessions next month with the first on April 1st at Cold Spring City Hall from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The meetings will allow people to review its designs, discuss project plans, and share their thoughts.
Staff says Stearns County says the sessions are a chance to ensure the new Justice Center meets the community’s needs while providing a modern space for justice services. The other sessions will be held on April 16th at the Freeport Community Center and April 30th at the St. Cloud Great River Regional Library.
In November, 62.3% of voters passed a 3/8-cent sales tax to fund a new justice center. Plans call for a 510,000-square-foot facility with a price tag just a hair below $320 million. The sales tax takes effect on April 1st, and construction should be underway late next year.
The complex will be constructed at the corner of County Highway 75 and County Road 134. It will sprawl across 68 acres, with a 10-acre wetland providing a natural buffer for the property. The center is expected to hold the jail, sheriff’s office, county attorney offices, and courthouse.
