(KNSI) – For 218 students from across central Minnesota, the past is prologue.

Students from grades 6-12 will be presenting for the regional History Day competition at St. Cloud State University on March 29th inside the Atwood Memorial Center. This year’s theme is “Rights and Responsibilities in History.” From 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., visitors can learn about the Clean Water Act of 1972, World War II scrap diving, and more.

Students have several options to bring history to life. Some will research and put pen to paper. Others will approach their topic through the creation of an interactive website. Live enactments/presentations and documentaries are other possibilities.

Winners will advance to the state competition on Sunday, April 27th. National History Day is celebrated in June with a competition in the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. The finalists will be worthy of going down in history themselves.
