(KNSI) – St. Cloud is holding a pair of public hearings on modifying its dangerous dogs ordinance and paying for an administrative hearing.

The changes would include requiring a special annual registration beyond what is already required for pets. The city will also change the wording to give it jurisdiction over any potentially dangerous animal, not just dogs. They are also looking to update the appeal process for dangerous and potentially dangerous animals to align with Minnesota Statute.

The second public hearing is on the administrative hearing process related to violations of the city codes. These can be fines for parking violations, property code violations, and rules around garbage and recycling.

The amended ordinance proposes to increase the administrative appeal fee from $75 to $150 to help cover the cost of the hearing and would require people who file an administrative appeal to split the cost of the hearing if the city’s actions are upheld. Likewise, the appealing party will not be responsible for any costs if the hearing officer finds in their favor. The rest of the proposed amendments fix typographical errors and clarify the code’s meanings.

The last changes were made in 2016. The city council will hold the hearing during Monday’s meeting at 6:00 p.m. inside St. Cloud City Hall. To see the agenda, click here.
