(KNSI) – Catholic Charities Emergency Food Shelf is ready to “Pack the Porches.”

The annual event comes at a time of great need for the organization. Senior Development Officer Diana Arthur tells KNSI Radio that last year was a busy one. “In 2024, we at Catholic Charities in the Diocese of St Cloud provided more than 2.4 million pounds of food. That is over 17,000 people in more than 6,000 households.”

That trend has been seen across the state, as well. Pack the Porches will take place at three locations across the St. Cloud metro area on Friday, March 28th. They include Pioneer Place on Fifth downtown St. Cloud, St. Cloud Financial Credit Union in Sartell, and St. Cloud Hyundai in Waite Park.

Arthur notes that nonperishable food items will gladly be accepted, but monetary donations offer the biggest bang for the buck. “We have three-to-one buying power. If somebody were to donate $100 to us, that actually allows us to purchase $300 worth of food.”

Arthur credits Catholic Charities’ relationship with Second Harvest Heartland for the beneficial arrangement.
