(KNSI) – Choirs from the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University are headed to one of the most hallowed concert venues in America next month.
Three groups will take the stage in Midtown Manhattan at Carnegie Hall on April 6th. It is part of a program that sees the New England Symphonic Ensemble play in support of choruses nationwide. The CSB and SJU Chamber Choir, SJU Men’s Chorus, and CSB Women’s Choir are expected to belt out works from Bach and Vivaldi as part of their portion of the program.
Associate Professor of Music Dr. Bradley Miller is a guest conductor for the show. Miller calls it a bucket-list type of experience. “For me and our singers to be able to make music at such a notable venue will be a phenomenal experience. This is the first time any CSB+SJU ensembles have had the chance to do this. It increases the visibility of our program and adds a very impressive performance to our resume.”
The show will feature the entire chamber choir, rounded out by 20 members of the men’s chorus and women’s choir. They held auditions for those spots in the fall. Rehearsals have taken place each Wednesday since students returned from Christmas break.
Central Minnesota won’t be left out in the cold for the historic performance. The group will hold a concert March 28th at the Great Hall of St. John’s University that includes a sneak peek of some of what will be on display in the Big Apple.
