(KNSI) — Jules’ Bistro in St. Cloud is holding its seventh annual Lift Up the Ladies clothing drive and social events, but with a twist.

This year, instead of bras, the downtown restaurant is collecting sets of pajamas and loungewear for Anna Marie’s Alliance Women’s Domestic Violence Shelter. Jules’ Bistro owner Donella Westphal explained to KNSI News that they’ve collected new bras for the past six years and created a large enough stockpile that organizers suggested they pivot to meet a different need. “So this year, that’s what we’re doing. We’re collecting pajamas and loungewear in all shapes and sizes, all styles and bonus points if you bring indoor outdoor slippers, too.”

She says the women at the shelter come with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and having something comfortable to change into will help them adjust to a new environment. Only new clothing will be accepted. Westphal has some advice on picking out an outfit if you’re going shopping. “What I tell women when they ask me for more specifics is, I say if you would be comfortable wearing it, if it’s something you would enjoy, then it’s the perfect choice.”

For those who donate an outfit on a Monday, it’s a ticket to unlimited food and drinks that evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. during Jules’ special themed social hours. The next one is on Saint Patrick’s Day and will feature Irish fare such as Reuben shepherd’s pie, pretzel bites with beer cheese sauce and four special brews.

Outfits can be dropped off any day during business hours at the restaurant or area Motor Works Auto Repair shops, and they’ll get the clothes to the shelter.

Jules’ Bistro holds the event in March because it is National Women’s History Month. Over the years, they’ve collected around 6,000 bras and look forward to starting a new chapter taking in pajamas and loungewear.
