(KNSI) — St. Cloud State University announced Wednesday that Selke Field is now available for public purchase.

Selke Field was established in 1937 and named in 1946 after George Selke, the university’s longest-serving president. A press release from the school says the facility is recognized for its historic granite walls, constructed by the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression. It hosted football games until 2004 when Husky Stadium was built. The property was most recently used as the home field for the university’s softball team, which has since relocated all home games to Husky Stadium on campus.

The parcel spans an estimated 16.28 acres and is zoned R-2 Single Family and Two Family Residential/POS Parks and Open Spaces. It has an appraised value of $290,000 and may be purchased for no less than this amount, plus costs associated with the survey and appraisal.

“Selke Field holds a special place in the history of our university and community,” said SCSU Interim President Larry H. Dietz. “While it is bittersweet to part with such a historic site, we are excited about the opportunities this sale will bring for future development and growth.”
