(KNSI) — A Montrose man who pleaded guilty to causing a fatal crash in July has been sentenced.
Twenty-two-year-old Bradley Alfred Allen Johnson pleaded guilty to fleeing an officer resulting in death, receiving stolen property and criminal vehicular operation in December. Sherburne County District Judge Walter Kaminsky sentenced Johnson to 121 days in jail, stayed for two years on the criminal vehicular operation charge. He was sentenced to just over 13 years in prison for fleeing police and causing a crash resulting in death, and a year in prison for receiving stolen property.
Court documents say July 6th, a Sherburne County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted a pickup driving at a high rate of speed on Highway 10 near St. Cloud. The deputy clocked Johnson going over 100 miles an hour. When he attempted to stop him, he took off and the deputy lost sight of the truck in Becker. A short time later, the deputy saw a cloud of dust and debris after Johnson caused a multiple-car wreck on Highway 10 near Liberty Lane. The truck turned out to be stolen.
Christopher James Vyskocil was driving the vehicle that was hit first. The 36-year-old man was critically injured and died nine days later. He leaves behind a wife and children. The driver of a second vehicle hit by Johnson survived.
Johnson told investigators at the crash scene that he had ingested heroin about five hours before the crash. Testing of his blood showed the presence of fentanyl. Court records show he has been convicted three times in 2024 for driving with a revoked license, twice for driving without insurance and was fined twice in 2023 for speeding.
